August 2017 update from Rod Ward, Chairman and Jean Dearn, El Presidente
--------------------------------------------------------
1: Art Club Picnic 2017 - Monday 4 September
This year’s Summer Picnic will be held once again at Sue Woodhall's garden in 6 Priory Park Grove (off Common Lane) Monk Fryston. You will be able to park wherever you usually do for a Monday meeting, and walk to the Picnic. Thank you to Sue and to Neil, who has indicated that the marquee can be erected as before, in case of inclement weather.
Robert, who catered for us last year, has since died, we are sad to note, so this year Faye will be our caterer. The cost is likely to be £10.00 per member, subsidised 50% by the Club, so you will only have to pay £5.00. Friends and partners are welcome, at the full cost of £10.00 each.
The event will commence in late morning for coffee, and go on throughout the afternoon. By all means bring equipment along if you want to paint or draw, but for most of us it will be a social occasion!
Put this in your diary now, and PLEASE email NOW if you hope to attend, and if you may be bringing a guest.
If you are not certain that you will be able to attend, but hope to do so, please put book your place anyway - at this stage we won't hold you to it, but it will help us to get an idea of total numbers, to advise Faye for the catering.

2: Art Club Exhibition 2017 - Sunday 1 October
We now have confirmation from Monk Fryston Hall of the date for our 2017 Art and Craft Exhibition. It will be on Sunday 1 October. Some members will recall that there was some doubt about this date, as someone will be organising a craft demonstration over a few days including 1 October, with the 'pupils' staying in the Hotel.
This means that we have to be out of the room where we have the exhibition by 4:30.
We don't see this as any problem, as we close the exhibition at 4:00pm and can easily be clear by 4:30pm.
More information during August and September, as we have it.
We need to publicise the event as much as possible in advance, and we will need the usual volunteers for setting out the exhibition on the Sunday morning and stewarding during the day.

3: Christmas lunch 2017 - Monday 18 December
We have to decide on a venue for the Christmas lunch on 18 December; it's never too early to book for Christmas. There have been various suggestions, but for every advocate of a venue, someone else points out a problem with it.
We have therefore booked Monk Fryston Hall Hotel, and asked for one large single table for all the members.
This would either be in the restaurant or the smaller Rutland room.
If there is a big take-up of bookings from members, the table would probably be too large for the Rutland Room.
We have made the booking now, because many venues are already getting booked up for the week before Christmas. BUT - if a more suitable venue comes up, we are prepared to cancel Monk Fryston Hall.
Your comments and suggestions are invited.

4: Other matters
Here is a note from Maureen Boothe of three demonstrators booked for the autumn season.
The first demo will be Mike Dobson on 11 September, the second is Jenny Ulyatt on 16 October and the third will be Dave Newbould on 13 November.
Maureen will be distributing the Autumn programme soon, so you will have no excuse for not knowing who is coming to entertain us. All other Monday afternoons from 18 September to 11 December will be for 'free painting'.
We seem to have managed to get through the past year without any formal committee meetings, but we usually have a Club AGM in the Autumn. If there are matters you wish to be discussed at an AGM, please send us a note.
Membership: Due to age, infirmity or conflicting activities on a Monday afternoon, there will be a number of members not renewing their membership in January 2018. We will therefore be advertising once again for new members in various local publications, Parish magazines etc. If you can place a news item in any local publications for us, please let us know, and we will give you a form of words to use.
