Andrew Jenkin

We asked Andrew to send us a few samples of his work durng his demo and he has been kind enough to do so.
He also said he enjoyed his time at the club and wished the club well.

It would be nice to have some finished pieces from his workshop so bring them in next week for the blog.

Thank you.

For those that don't know Andrew here is his bio.

Born in 1976 and originally from Crewe in Cheshire, Andrew Jenkin now lives in North Wales with his wife Tracey and daughter Violet.
Andrew spent his childhood in Honley near Huddersfield, drawing and sketching from an early age. As a young man he was a student at Keele University in Staffordshire where he obtained an Honours degree in History and Ancient History.
Upon his return to Huddersfield, Andrew worked as a land-surveyor and returned to his childhood interest in art; he began painting in 1999 at evening classes held at the North Light Gallery Art School.
In 2003 he set up the Arjent Design studio in a nineteenth-century textile mill near Huddersfield. Arjent Design continues to produce greetings cards, bookmarks and prints from his paintings, which depict well-known buildings and landmarks around the North of England.
Andrew joined the Huddersfield Art Society in 1999, soon accepting the role of Secretary then Vice-President. He remains an active participant in the Society.
Andrew taught watercolour classes for five years at North Light Gallery Art School in Armitage Bridge, and became Head Tutor in 2009 until his move to Wales in 2010.
In 2009 Andrew retold and illustrated the popular legend of the Lambton Worm in his first book ‘The Curse of the Lambton Worm’. The original illustrations toured a number of exhibition venues throughout that year.
Andrew has undertaken a variety of commissions for private individuals, more recently for the University of Huddersfield.
Regular exhibitions include the Huddersfield Art Society Annual Exhibition and Holmfirth, Artweek & Fringe Exhibition.

Andrew was shortlisted for the ‘Artist of the Year’ competition by Artist & Illustrators magazine in 2012.

Andrew Jenkin workshop

We had a full attendance to welcome Andrew Jenkin on his first visit to the club to lead a workshop. Andrew specializes in water colour landscapes and having grown up in Huddersfield most of his paintings are of familiar local beauty spots. He has recently moved to North Wales where his talent is turning to the endless picturesque countryside around Snowdonia. We look forward to seeing more of his work in the future.

Andrew used a wet loose technique, unfamiliar to most of us.  It takes a lot of practice and possibly more time than we had. However most members will finish their pictures next week and it will be interesting to compare results.

Have a look at our efforts.
All numbered in case Andrew chances across the blog he may want to provide some comments by email and I will add them at a later date.
