The Ian Scott Massie workshop

Here are a few members efforts after the popular workshop by Ian Scott Massie.

I hope you spot your own work and thank you Jean for the photos who emailed this message.

Ian Scott Massie lead an interesting workshop in a very wet, on very wet technique.   The results were amazing considering everyone painted the same picture.

There will be no painting next Monday due to the Bank Holiday.

Ian Scott Massie demo and Wetherby open studios

Ian Sscott Massie will be with us next  week  and he emailed the following information.

Could you ask your members to bring some good quality watercolour paper, at least 140 lbs, masking tape, a painting board to tape it to, a selection of watercolours and some brushes. They don't need to stretch their paper beforehand unless they really want to. A sketch pad and pencil would also be a good idea.
Looking forward to seeing you

Also some news about an open studios event in Wetherby to hopefully take advantage of the mini heat wave we have been forecast. Enjoy.

Artists around Selby mmmmm ? 😱🎨

A new and exciting arts event Artists Around Wetherby will take place this May in the Wetherby area. It will be a fascinating glimpse into the way many artists in the area work and will include glass making, paintings and sculpture as well as photography. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet and talk to the artists taking part.

It is planned that Artists Around Wetherby will, in the future, become a major annual event in the Yorkshire Calendar, in which the public will be able to gain access to local Artists working in their studios. As seen in the Open Gardens format, visitors to a group of 16 artists (more joining) will be able, not only to buy original pictures, prints, cards, sculpture and silverware but watch the artists working in their own environment.

The event, launched this year by Ailsa Read (who is also the Chairman), Clare Dean and Rachel McNaughton, three prominent artists in the area, will cover two weekends and the intervening week: that is from Saturday 17th May and will end on Sunday 25th May opening between 10a.m. and 4p.m.

Artists Around Wetherby represents artists who have studios in villages within a five mile radius of Wetherby including several studios in Boston Spa.. A map will allow the public to follow a trail of their choosing. Some individual artists studios will also be serving teas.

This will become an ideal annual outing for a family or for all of those new house-holders in places like Boston Spa, needing new pictures for walls, inspirational perhaps for children and interesting and educational to all to see how art is created.

Information in the form of flyers will be distributed which will contain not only a profile of all of the artists but a map locating all the studios. Further artist and contributor information can be found at the following websites or via email

Some great paintings here in the process of being finished and some completed works too.
