Free painting 30th July 2012

It seems an age since we were last together at the club, thanks to a small break and a water damaged floor.
Anyway back to it today with some wonderful paintings in progress and a few finished ones.

Please please keep the finished ones coming in as they are great to see completed.

Kathy Bowers , club member profile

Another club member to have the spotlight on her now is Kathy Bowers. The following profile is probably out of date now but I will update it as and when I get further information.

                                                                 Kathy Bowers

Kathy has been painting for approximately 15 years, three years of which were spent taking evening classes in art at Park Lane College in Leeds. She started out with watercolours but now likes Oils and Acrylics as well as experimenting with mixed media and is enjoying it very much . She mainly does landscapes and seacapes.
Kathey is also a member of the York and District Society for All Artists , who run several workshops thoughout the year with lots of different demonstrators- they also hold 2 exhibitions each year in Wetherby at which she exhibits and sells very well.
Like most amateur artists she always appreciates selling pictures and does occasionally take on commissions.

When I took these photo's , Kathy had just sold a lovely landscape painting at the very prestigious Holmfirth Art week event.

All these works are for sale , contact by e-mail if you would like further information. karlsimpson1285@btinternet.com the price does not include postage if applicable but all can be collected from various locations around the Selby district area and possibly York.

Barbara Place demo and workshop

This demo by Barbara Place occurred some weeks ago now. I have lifted her bio below from her own website. The demo was a watercolour flower and the club members efforts are shown below.

Barbara is based in Pudsey ,West Yorkshire,  painting in watercolours mixed media, and acrylics. My main passion  is painting flowers in watercolour, a subject that I tutor  from time to time.
A couple of years ago it became important for me to paint the Yorkshire landscape, from a different perspective. It has been  rewarding , but hasnt come easy as I changed the media that I paint in to acrylics, and pastels for the landscapes, as I wanted them to be abstract/ semi abstract, and I wanted to push myself. I know what I want to achieve, I feel I am moving towards my goal, and I am so enjoying the challenge of being right out there in North  Yorkshire. My only problem is the fact I like the dark angry skies, no blue skies for me, and it is the cold wind and rain that go hand in hand with those skies, I tend to be a fair weather girl.

I spend a few months in New Zealand most years, Where I enjoy painting the flowers and landscapes of New Zealand, which has an amazing light not found anywhere else in the world. Have exhibited jointly with my sister very successfully in Wellington.
